REVIEW: LEGO STAR WARS “THE EMPIRE STRIKES OUT”
New celebrity Luke begins a secret mission but is thwarted by his fans; Darth Vader clashes with Darth Maul.
Spoilers Below
Luke needs to escape to Naboo in order to avoid any trouble with Darth Vader and his 2 Live Crew featuring Sidious and the always egotistical Maul, the former of which wants to build a new Death Star. That said, Troopers are on Naboo causing Luke to go on a mission to grab some intel, the problem is the local ladies all recognize the Jedi warrior and as such keep blowing his cover. To try and disguise himself, Luke goes to a local costume shop and puts on some new digs that fashion him to look just like Vader, but it doesn’t work and instead Luke has to make a break for it with R2 in his X-Wing and head back into space. The ship, however, is all sorts of out of control and he gets into an accident with a clearly disenfranchised Vader of whom is out because Sidious keeps favoring Maul as the bestest Sith Lord.
Luke eventually ends up in the Star Destroyer still dressed up while Darth ends up on Tatooine and gets captured by Jawa traders. Luke eventually makes his way back to Tatooine clad as Vader and stars clearing out some of the Troopers when the real Vader(who just broke out) shows up for a lightsaber duel. And yep, Vader begins to drop a bomb on Luke but is instead thwarted by Luke’s fans. The Rebel fights off the rest of the Empire and heads to the Destroyer for a showdown and as such blow the ship out of the sky. Vader ends up being chased through the galaxy by Luke’s fans subsequently destroying Sidious’ new Death Star and pretty much getting rid of Maul. You would think this would piss off the Emperor but instead, he awards Darth with Employee of the Month.
I am not a fan of Star Wars as my adventures into 1970s space was more inclined with Aliens or Predator. That said, I found this special to be pretty funny and completely open to anyone who is looking for a less intense spoof on the Star Wars Universe that you wouldn’t get in the more extreme depictions in say Robot Chicken or Family Guy. That said, I wonder how many Star Wars fans there are in this particular age group(6-14) where the mythos wasn’t forced on them by parents who are probably also blood-related versus kids whom naturally discover Star Wars through Clone Wars or the 10,000 marathons Spike TV seems to run every other week. That said, the special itself was cleverly written and should appease fans looking for their animated Lego fix, and/or Star Wars and non-Star Wars fans alike who are looking for something a tad different than what’s been done in the past.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
