Review: It’s Pony “Pony, Come Home/Special Sauce”

Overview

“Pony, Come Home”
Annie & friends plan a heist to retrieve Pony from the rich kid who thinks he owns him now.

“Special Sauce”
When Gerry adopts a pet rock and starts having Annie and Pony-style adventures, they worry that they’ve lost their “special sauce.”

Our Take

For the first episode, the heart of the story is Pony being forcibly owned by a rich kid named Tristian due to a misunderstanding of Pony being inside a wishing well and given the spoiled malicious nature of him owning Pony even after finding out he belonged to someone else, you’d think Tristian would have parents to help him behave into a better person. Hilariously, most of Tristian’s Horses in his stable can’t stand Pony despite his friendly nature leading to a scenario that almost feels like a heist movie…

As for the 2nd episode, Annie & Pony find it odd that Gerry seems to have these weird-ass situational adventures ever since he got a pet rock named “Rocky” Thinking they “Lost their Mojo” (Or “Special Sauce” as they proceed to call it) And end up confronting Gerry who just remains awkward and confused by all of it. But in the end, It turns out the Rock may have something weirdly cursed about it.

Overall, both episodes were passable, even if they were too wacky in their proceedings. Tristian seems like a potential recurring antagonist we might see in the future. He may be an “Evil spoiled rich kid” archetype that’s often seen in kid films & shows, but it does remind us that while Clara is also rich, she at least is a better friend to Annie and even helped her with the Pony situation. Also, there’s a mildly amusing running joke involving a Trap Door that Tristian keeps forgetting where he installed it which had a payoff later on As for the other episode, all I could think of is that Austin Powers quote “I Lost my Mojo!” since followed the same beats of Austin’s Journey to sort-of get it back in “The Spy Who Shagged me” yet it slowly found a way to be it’s own thing with a unique twist at the end that part of me saw coming a mile away.
