Review: Hot Streets “The Ballad of Autumn Gold”

A golden oldie.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Autumn Gold is the name of a horse that Branski befriends when he’s tasked with going back in time with his fellow agents to stop Black Bart from mutating horses into monsters. French rounds up a posse in the form of Rock Throwing Rick and the three cowboys head through a portal that takes them to a spaceship where the mutations occur. Jen and Chubbie get mutated as well but are also cured of all the diseases they’ve caught since going back in time. French and Baranski chase off Bart and then escape the dying ship in the nick of time. Unfortunately, we’ve gotta put down Autumn Gold in the process, and Rock Throwing Rick dies in battle.

Our Take

That last part hurts. I loved the presented dynamic between Branski and Autumn Gold, I thought, despite the show’s comedic nature, the growing bond between the two was well thought out, and I thought Rock Throwing Rick was one of the best new characters of the season. Seriously, when he gets killed off I couldn’t help but get a tad upset, but alas it had to happen. And yes, Chubbie becomes a prostitute in an effort to save Jen and it’s hilarious.

The whole episode was quite good. I thought the premise did a better job of mixing cowboys and aliens than the movie Cowboys & Aliens and there were laughs all over the place. I mean, scene one, Garcia sticks his tongue down Chubbie’s throat….yuck..
