Review: Harvey Beaks “The Split; The Dade”

Hope you love you some Dade!

Spoilers Below

“The Split”

The twins have it out with Dade and the two sides swear to never be friends. Unfortunately, this puts Harvey at the center of a custody battle on who he gets to hang out with and for how long and it nearly destroys him both mentally and physically. To help Harvey introduces a new puppet friend named Brad that is meant to be an exhibit on how to better handle tense relations, but is seen as a common enemy by Dade, Fee, and Foo. The three band together and have to save Harvey not just from Brad, but from a big balloon ride that nearly ends in disaster! Fortunately, the common enemy brings a truce to the warring sides and now Harvey’s got his pals back.

“The Dade”

Dade gets a sandwich named after him at the diner and decides to go on a promotional tour around Littlebark to tell everyone about how great it is and how crappy his competition is. Eventually, Dade goes so bat shit crazy that he nearly gets himself eaten by a monster and literally thinks that no one likes. Fortunately, he snaps out of it, but it looks like he could be convinced to take part in another go.

Our Take

“The Split” was an ok episode, somewhat formulaic, but “The Dade” was by far the funnier of the two episodes and the funniest episode of the season. CH Greenblatt gets a lot of recognition as a producer, but this episode certainly shows he has voice-acting chops, too. Watching Dade go nuts was excellent, and there were times where I couldn’t help but think of shades of another Nickelodeon legend Ren & Stimpy when it came to Dade nearly having a nervous breakdown.

I quite like seeing the Harvey Beaks characters lose their cool from time to time, like when Harvey gets annoyed at how unclean something is or when Fee threatens violence to all who oppose. It shows a real human element for the series and I love every second of it. Less we forget, we got TWO Dade episodes tonight, and I hope there are more to come.
