Review: Gravity Falls “Weirdmageddon 3: Take Back The Falls”

Spoilers Below

When we last saw the Pines family, Dipper and Mabel rejoined Grunkle Stan and some of the townspeople in the Mystery Shack but Grunkle Ford was captured by Bill Cipher. Dipper and Mabel took it upon themselves to figure out a way to get Ford back, making their family whole again.

Realizing that Ford put the unicorn spell on the Shack to make it invulnerable against Bill’s power, the twins let Old Man McGucket come up with a plan to turn the Shack into a giant robot. Despite Stan’s protests, the rest of the townspeople chipped in to make it awesome. There were a dinosaur hand and a truck foot. Yeah, it was awesome.

The robot fighting, and handily defeated, all of Bill’s monster minions. Finally, Bill joined the fight. As the triangle battled the robot, the Pines and the townspeople leaped inside Bill’s triangle fortress to save the captured townspeople and finish Bill off once and for all. Amazingly, the key to saving the townspeople was as easy as pulling the Mayor out of Bill’s stone chair. The rest of the chair toppled and everyone returned to normal.

Now to defeat Bill. Ford drew the now-famous symbol circle with Bill in the center. This is a clue that every Gravity Falls fan has been trying to decode since the beginning. Now we know who goes with each symbol. Mabel, Dipper, Wendy, Soos, Gideon, Pacifica, McGucket, Robbie, Stan, and Ford. The group only hand to stand on their symbol and join hands in order to defeat Bill. However, Stan and Ford began bickering and broke the circle. Bill banished all the non-Pines into banners as he took on the two sets of twins.

There was a big chase scene featuring Mabel, Dipper, and Bill before the big show-down happened. Ford agreed to let Bill into his mind, as long as Bill would leave his family alone. Bill agreed and slipped into Ford’s mind. But it wasn’t Ford. It was Stan’s mind. Since Stan doesn’t have a metal plate in his head, Ford was able to use the memory eraser on him. This not only deleted Bill from existence, but it also deleted all of Stan’s memories. He didn’t remember anyone. Not his twin brother. Not Mabel and Dipper. Not even the Mystery Shack.

Mabel had a plan to bring back her Grunkle Stan. She read him all of the entries from her memory book. Slowly, his memory came back. Stan was back to normal.

With everyone safe from Bill’s hijinks, the Grunkles threw a 13th birthday/going away party for Mabel and Dipper. Once the twins blew out their candles, the Grunkles announced that they were leaving on a journey. Originally, Stan was going to close the Mystery Shack but Soos got overly emotional about it so Stan gave the Shack to him. After the party, the gang got together at the bus stop to say their final goodbyes. Mabel was sad about having to leave Waddles behind but the Grunkles threatened the bus driver into allowing the pig on board. There were a lot of emotional goodbyes. In the end, Dipper and Mabel went back to their lives in California while the Grunkles went on the journey across the ocean they dreamed of as kids. A happy ending for everyone.

In my opinion, this was a perfect ending for the series. While it would have been nice to see the circle work, it was more fitting to have the battle come down to the two sets of twins. It follows through with the “family is everything” theme that has always run through the series. It is sad to see things come to an end but it was an open ending so there could be more in the future. I think I’m good with the series ending like this though. Anything more would be too much. We don’t need another summer at the Falls. This “summer” was perfect.
