Review: Gary And His Demons “Gary and His Love Life”

Or lack thereof…

Overview (Spoilers Below)

It’s been 20 years since Gary has gotten laid and that comes to a head when he has a tryst with Bloody Mary. Originally meant to be a one night stand, Gary becomes lovesick for the mirror-based nightmare and as such tries to break up her marriage to her husband Jeff. That doesn’t work one bit, and in fact, probably ruins the friendship Gary once had with Mary, but a guy can try, can’t he?

Our Take

After a brief hiatus, Gary returns with an episode that I think a lot of men can relate to but the fun with THIS show is the twist featuring an icon of scary bedtime stories. As a result, it’s a hilarious mix of real-life concepts infused with fantastical elements that could only be delivered animated and as such, the producers did a legit job of not placing the premise and plot entirely in one mindset and instead give us a unique offering that puts us right back in the mood for more new episodes incoming.

The animation production started out a bit drab this week, a lot of dank coloring in the characters’ designs, particularly with Gary. However, I was blown away by the heavy metal-infused ideas that came through whenever we traveled in Bloody Mary’s world and I hope we get to revisit for a longer stay next time to see what else the producers could come up with that would really help us gauge a setting meant for eternal damnation.
