Review: Family Guy “The Peanut Butter Kid”

In a world of Honey Boo Boos and other non-noteworthy specimen of society, Family Guy tackles the child star industry in its usual comedic way. Stewie leads the life of a child actor, because of his breakout role as “The Peanut Butter Kid”. Peter and Lois push him harder and harder to achieve success for their own greedy reasons. They keep Stewie in his prime game by mixing 5 hour energy drinks with drugs and alcohol to concoct an “acting drink” of sorts and then feeding it to him. In turn, he gets blitzed out of his mind and throws glasses of orange juice at auditions to land jobs. As the voice of reason, Brian tries to stop all of this from evolving into chaos by attempting to snap Stewie out of the drug-induced trance he is in.

I got a good laugh at the beginning of the episode when the Griffin family gathered around in their living room and prayed before opening their bank statements. They were disappointed when they found out they were still poor after praying, even though they were sorry they, “cyber-bullied that girl to death.” It pains me that I know people with this mentality.

There was also a hilarious moment with Mayor West that I can’t leave out. It’s most likely because he’s my favorite character. Peter buys a metal detector and more-or-less ransacks the entire neighborhood’s land. He finds another metal detector that was buried. After digging it up, he says, “I wonder what happens if I turn it on and point them at each other.” He does. There is a white void. Adam West is there and says, “Did you also call into a talk show without turning down your radio first?!” He’s just there floating in nothingness. It’s hilarious.

Sometimes I’m not a fan of all the cutaways that Family Guy uses, but this episode had a lot of well-placed ones and funny under-the-breath remarks.
