Review: Family Guy – A Lot Going On Upstairs (S14Ep15)

Brian confronts his demons.

Peter decided that turning his attic into a man cave was the best idea that was never thought of yet. (We’ve all been there.) At a time when endless rounds of insulation fights amongst friends was considered fun, Lois thought otherwise. The lightning-fast speed at which the attic was fastened shut by her was remarkable. Without hesitation, she left her man to die. That’s my type of woman! After Cleveland started “crowning” hours later, Lois had no other option but to reluctantly bash a hole into the ceiling to rescue them from her own actions.
Meanwhile, Stewie was in dire need of help after he couldn’t get his nightmares to stop. He turned to his love of inventing and created a digital dream catcher. Brian decided he wanted to help him and willingly hooked himself into the new invention. This was the better part of the episode, because it had substance. Brian and Stewie went traveling through Stewie’s own subconscious in order to find the literal monster at the source of his nightmares.
Brian comes across Glenn Close in his journey to defeat the evil entity. I was extremely pleased that there was a certain animated film with dogs brought into the conversation and how horribly she treated them in the film. Coming from Brian, it made for a witty, faux-awkward time.
I always enjoy when Stewie gets to be creative in episodes. It allows that element of science and surprise in the show. It’s also tastefully done and, while seemingly chaotic, it follows an overarching plot that concludes. This episode was no different. However, things like this usually get overshadowed by constant bodily function jokes.
