Review: Fairview “Crypto”
Overview
Fairview forks over their life savings to a magical Luck Dragon promising untold riches for those who invest in crypto and NFTs. Meanwhile, Beef and Mack invest in crypto and become overnight trillionaires.
Our Take
This week is one of the better episodes of Fairview. Are we still getting Tweet-fueled punchlines? We sure are. But, at least this week’s subject matter surrounding cryptocurrency is a little more ongoing in terms of relevance than prior episodes and definitely an important conversation piece. I think the show does a decent job of explaining what NFT’s and crypto markets are in general before the cliched punchlines sink in. For my money, South Park did this better late last year, but we really shouldn’t compare Fairview to South Park.
The NFT-dragon was by far the funniest bit of the episode and also the most well-animated. In what certainly appeared to be a cross between Dragonheart and My Little Pony, the Luck Dragon, and really the Beef/Mack storyline as a whole, warns people about the increasing Web3 bubble that is growing fast and what you should look out for before investing. Is it all bad? No. I barely managed to listen in closely to the Fairview characters because sometimes the voices are so nasally I need to hit the mute button, but Luck Dragon was a bit more easy-going and an effective guide into the eventual parody iceberg that the writers were intentionally placing.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
