Review: Fairview “CLIMATE CATASTROPHE”
Overview
After bizarre weather hits Fairview, the students protest climate inaction, prompting Kelly to become history’s greatest performative activist. Meanwhile, Omni tries to bribe Beef into becoming a corporate shill.
Our Take
Again, a very investigative writing of the Twitter variety in the form of jokes and any substance to the points the writers are trying to make. Given that this writer’s team is mainly of the NYC-area variety, it would behoove them not to mention the constant change in temps we experience here. As luck would have it, as beautiful and sunny as it had been in NYC for the better part of the last two weeks, today it’s windy/rainy/cold. That’s exactly the type of thing this show is attempting to hit a nerve on. Similarly to my now hometown of Stamford, CT, our response to climate change has largely been paper straws, no plastic bags at the grocery store, and tax credits for choosing solar.
All fine and dandy on the surface. While Fairview does point out the lack of true understanding of the cause of climate change, the writers once again blame conglomerate businesses, which is Twitter’s answer to the crisis. Yes, conglomerate businesses do have a role to play, but the show fails to address areas that are just as at fault if not more-so for our current climate stasis, i.e. the military industrial complex, big oil, that are, by far much bigger players on the grand scale of pollutants here in America.
Of course, the shallow attempt at a plot could’ve been overlooked if there were any decent jokes to be had. I didn’t hear any really, and with one more episode left, I’m looking forward to forgetting about this series soon.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
