Review: DuckTales “The Last Adventure!”

Overview

The future of adventuring hangs in the balance as the Duck family uncovers unraveling earth-shattering secrets in a final standoff with the Fiendish Organization for World Larceny (F.O.W.L.) and much of it surprisingly surrounds Webby…

Our Take

For an hour and a half-special, everything that’s been established in past seasons and every character that’s been slowly added or heavily referenced from the Disney afternoon block to some capacity, in combination with setups and call-backs from past seasons all manage to get a proper pay-off here. In their attempt to take down F.O.W.L. the biggest unraveling mystery is regarding a longtime character that becomes the centerpiece to all of this and that’s Webby Vanderquack (Voiced by Kate Micucci).

In all the years on the show, Webby and by-extension the audience have often wondered things about her past that up until this point have never been properly touched upon or explained. For starters, we do know she’s the grand niece of Ms. Beakley, but what about her biological parents? If she did have parents what happened to them? and why would Beakley in all her years raising her become so secretive about her lineage? All of it gets a proper answer with a shocking twist that even I didn’t see coming, and it culminates in this grand finale that delivers in spades!

Overall, this ending was handled in a satisfying way with an end-credits sequence that’s also worth sticking around for. And while it doesn’t fully utilize every guest character from the show we’ve seen so far, it at least gives us a cameo or two for some decent fanservice while giving supporting other supporting characters their moments to shine. For the mind-blowing twists alone, don’t pass up this chance to check it out for yourself.
