Review: DuckTales “New Gods on the Block!”

Overview

Due to a mishap in a quest that Scrooge and the Kids failed to achieve. Selene enters their home and offers the kids a chance to prove themselves by auditioning to take Zeus’ place amongst the Greek gods, while Storkules interferes with Donald and Daisy’s date.

Our Take

So much was crammed into this episode, 3 subplots apparently. Within this we got Scrooge being an absent-minded Douche regarding the kid’s usefulness, Zeus being an immature jerk desiring to get what he wants, and Donald just wanting alone time with Daisy which takes an abrupt halt by Storkules who comes across as well-intentioned but acts like the unwanted overbearing imbecile parent to Donald.

These subplots converge into something epic and meaningful by the end which surprised me in the best possible way, with the highlights would be the ways the episode shows the pros and cons of Huey, Dewey, Louie, and even Webby’s strengths, in combination with Scrooge learning how much of an effect his words have on his family. Oh, and Zeus (voiced by Michael Chiklis) was quite funny in this too.

Overall, a fun and passable episode. It almost makes you forget the overarching F.O.W.L. story throughout this season, but I’m sure they’ll come back to it at some point.
