Review: Dragons Defenders of Berk “Fright of Passage”
Be prepared for the coolest looking dragons yet.
Spoilers Below
The episode starts out with the Flightmare ravaging Berk. A young Astrid wants to go fight, but an Finn Hofferson stops her. Finn confronts the Flightmade, but falls. After repeated cracks on Astrid’s family, Snotlout gets the crap kicked out of him by Astrid. As Astrid and Hiccup are talking, Fishlegs uncovers the flight path of Flightmare. They get a plan together to follow it.
Meanwhile, Ruff and Tuff built a bunker in lieu of an attack. Snotlout gets declined, but Hookfang is allowed in. Snotlout has to find something to gain admission. As that’s going on, Hiccup and Astrid are flying, trying to find the Flightmare and it’s flight path. Astrid, like a moron, goes to fight it, and gets frozen for her trouble. Hiccup gets her, but gets into a chase with the Flightmare for his troubles. They find out that the Flightmare doesn’t scare people into fear, it’s a paralyzing agent. They fly over the mountain, to find a river of this substance flowing. And as for Snotlout, he finds his rainbow colored chicken, but it roused into finding more items. And he still has no admittance.
Fishlegs keeps studying, and comes to the same conclusion as Hiccup. They realize that the Flightmare follows the same path because the glowing algae have a reaction Arvendale’s Fire. He attacks, because he sees humans and dragons as a threat to its food. Also, gives it a nice glow. Toothless with this glow looks certified BADASS.
They see that the glow is temporary, and go to head it off. Fishlegs comes to help, and they all come to the conclusion that the best way to head off the Flightmare is to redirect the flow of the river to the sea. Meanwhile, back at the bunker, Ruff and Tuff are still swindling Snotlout out of admittance to the bunker. At the Flightmare, they try to give the dragon a dose of it’s own medicine, and they all eat up the algae. Surprisingly, it works. They spook it into a crash, and they finish digging the canal for the river. The day is saved, and the Hofferson name is restored to its former glory.
This was a very non-Halloween type of Halloween episode, and I wish every Halloween episode for every show was like this. I am 6 episodes in, and I am still amazed at how awesome the animation is. Tonight raised the bar, due to the glowing dragons. The pictures do no justice to this. The Flightmare, as well as Toothless, Meatlug and Stormfly looked wicked.
There were a couple points that lagged, like the bunker scenes with Ruff, Tuff and Snotlout, but nothing seriously detrimental to the story. The main story definitely did more than enough to keep the episode on course.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
