Review: Deep Space 69 “The Parable of Shaftocles”

This series needs some polish to TRULY be competitive.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

This week’s episode sees Jay and Hamilton being made part of past struggles as evidenced in a simulation as produced by a local team of cargo-shorts wearing space crusaders known as “The L.O.S.E.R.S.” who are trying to pitch Jay and his team to join them in battling the bad guys of space. Jay refuses based solely on the required uniforms and a fight ensues that sees Jay kill the entire team trying to recruit him. Jay and Hamilton take off on their journey.

Our Take

The fight scenes, although few, were excellent on this week’s Deep Space 69. This series probably is one of the more underrated animated choreographies available now. I was getting quite amped to seeing “The L.O.S.E.R.S.” play out as well, but how they went down is a very Rick Sanchez-type of move that fans of the other space animated comedy that shall not be named should get behind.

But, where is the show going? Are we progressing towards something? I’m not entirely sure Deep Space 69 is a “binge-worthy” series like a lot of the current streaming shows and I think that has more to do with the writing and such.I’m rooting for the show because it shows a bunch of promise in its production, but I think a few more writers in the writers room could do this one a good deed.
