Review: Crash and Bernstein ‘Crash Is Having a Baby’

Spoilers Below

Crash, Bernstein, and Pesto are back at it in the yard and I have no idea what they are up to.

The Coach is back and this time he’s teaching science even though he’s kind of a doof. Today we are learning about the human body and to do that the Coach is sending everyone home with eggs to take care of.  Crash has a time with his, Pesto smashes his, but what about Wyatt? He waits til class to destroy his which leads Crash to me the last man standing with an egg. However, when the assignment is over, Crash decides to keep his.

Crash is a dad now, so he’s acting all serious with his newborn son. So much so that he refuses to help Wyatt when he is needed. Back at home, Amanda is trying to swat away Pesto’s advances but Crash is trying his best to teach his important lessons.  Crash introduces the family to Hondo the Pony and he’s shitting everywhere and Mel can’t have it.

Wyatt and Pesto are trying to kill Crash Jr., but he’s got all of his bases covered. Eventually, Wyatt sneaks up while Crash is sleeping and after some lame back and forth with Cleo, he runs into Crash’s security setup. Wyatt grabs the egg anyway, but when he tries to cook it we find out that it’s a body double and Crash Jr. is fine and is staying until he gets accepted to college. Wyatt arranges so that Crash Jr. gets accepted, but the egg gets smashed anyway.

Cleo is failing gym because of her terrible dodge ball skills, so Mel decides to help out. She convinces Cleo to try and do ONE exercise for 40 minutes in a row. Doing this will help Cleo pass her class, but she’s more or less a lost cause. Eventually, Crash stands-in as a punching bag and Cleo CRUSHES him.

One of the major drawbacks of this series, besides the random bouts of terrible acting, is that the writers do story lines almost a bit TOO complex and as such the threads get stranded with no real conclusion and episode arcs (like Pesto trying to get Amanda) fall by the wayside and really offer no merit or value to the overall premise. That is certainly the case this week, because on side of the coin Crash is trying to be a responsible father, but then we get cameos of what Crash is normally like when he is in the plot featuring Cleo and Mel where he seems like his crazy self. The over riding result becomes a conundrum and it’s sad because when it effects rather talented actresses like Landry Bender and Oana Gregory, the whole show suffers. Cleo (Landry) was a B-plot that had no resolve what so ever, yea it was comical but just about any plot with Mel in it is a good time. Amanda (Oana) is quickly becoming my favorite cast member of the show, as she constantly outshines Pesto in EVERY scene they are in together. Worse yet, Aaron Landon’s (Pesto) voice is cracking and is becoming painfully obvious. Either that or he sounded like he had some sort of a flu, but yea he sounded scratchy as hell and you could tell post-prod was kinda sorta trying to mask it, however it was so obvious. Wyatt (Cole Jensen) has good weeks and bad weeks when it comes to acting abilities, I think this week he was less convincing than most other weeks, but still was passable. One last note…is EVERY episode going to open in that scrap yard? What happened to the arcade? What happened to outside of the school? Those were all good spots, but instead we starting every episode in this yard? Variety, please!
