Review: Craig of the Creek “Bring out your Beast”
Beast Mode.
Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)
Craig wants to play a popular Card-Battle game within a specific part of the Creek where other card-players congregate, so he decides to borrow Bernard’s vintage and valuable “Bring out your Beast” cards in an attempt to get his proverbial foot in the door.
Our Take
Throughout the episode, the closest thing to a card battle antagonist who helps give the plot a sense of urgency (because it wouldn’t be Card Battle parody otherwise), is a young ambitious little girl named Turner who comes off sympathetic at first but starts to go power-mad when she manipulates Craig into giving up a specific rare card that’s infamous within the rules of the game is where the story really kicks into high gear.
Much like the previous episodes, the humor consistently succeeds with clever dialogue in combination with the overactive imaginations of kids who blow shit out of comedic proportions, and in this case, it’s a Card Battle game that’s played within a saloon-style place at the Creek called the “Splintery Butt” due to the seats being made of unkempt & aged wood.
Along with the writing, the Animation keeps things consistently colorful & lively with detailed backgrounds and designs that give personality to each character, and the voice acting keeps things entertaining with Craig’s brother Bernard being voiced by Phil Lamarr (Samurai Jack), but what surprised me the most was Bernard’s girlfriend Alexis being voiced by Karen Fukuhara (Katana from the live action Suicide Squad movie).
Above all, while the card-battle game craze isn’t dying out anytime soon and continues to be parodied in Cartoons, TV shows, and even Anime, the heart of this episode was mainly about Craig’s unresolved issues with his Brother Bernard over how much of a dick he was to him in the past, but at some level, it’s clear that they don’t completely hate each other.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
