Review: Camp WWE “Blackjack Beauty”

You’re about to be hot-boxed.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

This week’s episode of Camp WWE sees John Cena, Big Show, and R Truth team up in a three-way match with the jet streams of the camp pool. The trio discovers the joy of fucking the incoming high-pressure jet stream of water that splashes against their genitalia thereby giving them a thrilling sensation that they quite can’t describe so it’s up to Vince McMahon and Triple H to put a stop to the shenanigans. They do just that with the help of the Godfather, but as it turns out, the secret’s out and now even the Four Horseman are taking part.

The Four Horseman? Yep…they were called in earlier to help chase down Brie Bella after she saves a local war horse-in-training from taking part in a brutal training camp. With the help of her estranged sister, Nikki, Brie saves “Blackjack” and frees him from the horrors of a Sergeant Slaughter-run camp that prepares horses for the treachery of war.

Our Take

Aside from the terribly-produced Godfather montage, “Blackjack Beauty” is one of the stronger episodes of the season thus far. In the case of the opening bit involving the youngin’s discovering the joys of self-gratification, really only Big Mouth did a better job of broaching this subject by way of an animated comedy that doesn’t do a Chris Griffin and just use masturbation as a punchline, but as an effective plot device. You can tell the producers were probably nervous in pitching Vince McMahon lines all about young boys pleasuring themselves, so that’s why we had the Godfather show up and do a ridiculous montaged explanation involving his cane. The climax was such a letdown that any credibility the producers had in approaching the subject kind of goes out the window and in its place is a cliched bit that derails and leaves a mess.

Brie’s plot was a bit more well-thought out in terms of its delivery. Is there a seasoning of cliche in setting free an animal that the main character falls in love with? Yea, sure, but we got to see a couple of different skill sets in storytelling shown in this episode and while Cena’s bit didn’t work out as planned, at least the plot for Brie’s bit was better-written and with a way smoother finish in conclusion. And don’t let the Four Horseman mention get you TOO excited, only Ric Flair has any lines, while the Andersons and Tully Blanchard stayed silent which was a bit of a disappointment admittedly, but I had enough fun overall with “BlackJack” that I was able to forgive the producers on this oversight.

Camp WWE, despite being an adult animated comedy, definitely features a writing staff that wants to bend the rules of traditional television, but is too afraid to really break them despite being on a streaming service. We’re already given a fair warning of the TV-MA rating about 10 times before the episode kicks off, and yet, when it comes to topics like sex we get a fumble at the goal line. Fortunately, Brie’s plot was way more palatable in its execution and as such, helps keep this week’s episode afloat.
