Review: Camp Camp “Cult Camp”
Camp Campbell is back.
Spoilers Below:
Gwen finds funds hidden in camp, and puts out a request for a new camp counselor. Instantly, a lookalike of David appears, named Daniel, who inquires about the position. He’s hired instantly, although the counselors fail to realize that Daniel is actually a former cult leader.
Daniel begins indoctrinating the kids into his cult, but Max, Neil, and Nikki are skeptical. The other campers, swayed by the promise of a more comfortable life, begin to follow Daniel. Max pleads with David to fire Daniel, but David remains oblivious as usual, and accuses Max of having a bad attitude. Daniel tries to get them to warm up to his doctrine via a ‘Purification Sauna’, which acts as a brainwashing tool. Neil and Nikki are thrown inside, leaving Max to fend for himself. Realizing that the only way to beat Daniel is through misdirection, Max directly appeals to David’s pride as a counselor. He says that since Daniel is doing such a good job, then there’s no need for the other counselors to stay. This affects David’s pride, but just as he comes to his senses, Max is also brainwashed.
David tries to fire Daniel, but Daniel points out that there’s no basis for firing him. In retaliation, David challenges him to a song-off, where Daniel accidentally reveals his status as a cult leader. He’s arrested, but Gwen returns, having found a new counselor in town: Jen, who appears to run a murder circle.
Overview:
A ridiculous episode, as per the Camp Camp norm. While it isn’t particularly stellar, it is relatively entertaining. Not something to watch twice, but amusing in its own way.
Daniel directly preys on two things: David’s obliviousness, and the kid’s desire for purpose and safety. He points out that the want for comfort will triumph over facts any day, and this has been proven to be true over and over again. While Daniel is still a parody of a cultist, the core tactics he uses are real and effective.
Could use less holocaust jokes though.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
