Review: Bordertown – American Doll (S1Ep12)
Don’t ever call me…doll

“American Doll” revolved around the insanity of the real-world American Girl Dolls. Gert set her heart on obtaining one for her birthday and when Bud couldn’t deliver, she berated him until he gave in. Due to the ridiculous price of these dolls and their accessories, Bud’s credit card was maxed out. This caused Janice to take a job as the Gonzalez’s housekeeper.
Under an enormous amount of stress from the thought of his wife working for a Mexican family, Bud decided that he would sabotage her new job. After getting the Gonzalez family to leave with a bogus phone call, he snuck into their house and started to make a mess, but only successfully left a massive dookie in their toilet. When the family returned home, he exited through the bathroom window to escape. The Gonzalez’s contacted the police to investigate the incident which later pointed to Bud as the culprit.
I was able to laugh a couple times during this episode. Gert was looking for money and said she had to break open her piggy bank with a hammer. She proceeded to walk over to Becky to play her skull like a gong and then took her cash. Another time was when Gert was rallying her friends against the evil American Doll Corporation at the playground and the girls used their dolls’ magical powers to deter them.
There was also a subplot that included Mario Lopez going into space and how he was only famous for his role as Slater on Saved by the Bell. It was funny until he returned from space as a giant monster only so the writers could use a t-shirt joke. The episode then ended with something you’d see on a Jeff Goldblum meme. Seriously, one of the most overused memes ever.

It wasn’t the worst episode, but it’s still as choppy as Michael J. Fox holding a chef’s knife.
