Review: Bob’s Burgers ‘Mazel-Tina’
Spoilers Below:
Maybe it’s the St. Patty’s Day beverages coursing my bloodstream, but I really dug last night’s episode of Bob’s Burgers. Actually, it was more likely the fact that it focused on Tina that entertained me so much. I think Tina is just such a relatable character for most people. Maybe not if you were one of the uber-popular persons in High School, but if not, I think we – man or woman – should be able to see a little of ourselves in Tina. And she’s brilliant in pretty much any situation.
In this episode, Tina volunteered Bob’s restaurant as a caterer for popular gal Tammy’s upcoming Bat Mitzvah. Tammy (voiced by hilarious SNL cast member Jenny Slate, who I’ve been high on since recently seeing her on YouTube’s “Getting Doug With High” with Doug Benson – complicated pun intended) proved to be so insufferable that her party planner quit (after additional torture via headset from Louise as well) and Tina was thrust into the role. However, when Louise and Tammy became trapped away from the party, Tina took advantage of her fill-in popularity to gain access to some hot BFOS (boys from other schools), before eventually righting things with Tammy.
In Case You Missed It:
1) Tammy’s best line may have been when screaming, “What is it now, Rabbi Rosenberg?! What is it now?!”
2) Upon seeing Tina’s red face, Gene shouted, “Ahh! One luftballoon!”
3) Did anyone else think the Bat Mitzvah MC sounded like Will Ferrell’s Harry Caray? His scenes made me want to polish off some spare ribs and wash them down with a cool Budweiser.
4) Speaking of food, Linda really made me want a crepe. Okay, I really need to eat.
5) Bisexual and unisex are NOT the same thing.
6) Why did the guacamole fail to gain everyone’s attention? “Because of your big mouth, Tammy!” said Louise, in the most literal sense.
7) Louise’s observation of the party sans Tammy was quite astute: “This is like a reverse It’s a Wonderful Life; you get to see how much better off everyone is without you shrieking at them.”
8) Tammy hilariously referred to Tina as Louise’s “Single White Female sister”.
Look, folks, there’s not much that needs to be explained when it comes to Tina episodes of Bob’s Burgers. Dan Mintz has one of the most hilarious (natural!) voices in comedy, and Tina should appeal to almost anyone that is, or was ever, a teenager. We all root for her, and when the family can rally behind our favorite oldest daughter as well, we know Gene’s jokes, Linda’s quirkiness, and Bob’s dry humor can take a backseat.
We didn’t even get a burger of the day! But that’s okay, because the episode was great, and the front door buzzer just rang – and it’s the burger delivery man.
Seriously.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
