REVIEW: Bob’s Burgers “Lindapendant Woman”

Spoilers Below

Linda gets a part time job at the grocery store while Bob has to man the restaurant without her. Eventually, the kids come and visit Linda with Tina ‘backstage’, Louise messing around with balloons, and Gene going nuts with free samples. As a matter of fact, Tina meets a guy but who he is is a mystery because she didn’t grab a name and number.  Eventually, Linda starts feeling under appreciated at the restaurant so when she gets the full time offer at the store she takes it. This leads to an argument between Bob and Linda with the former thinking he will be just fine without her. That said, Linda’s job starts getting really hectic because she keeps having to take everyone else’s shift even giving EVERYONE in the store the day off.

The kids unfortunately, can’t go back which devastates Tina so Louise helps her out by posting up some flyers. Thankfully, Linda calls the kids and they all come to help out at the store but, with everyone at the restaurant now at the store, Bob can’t do a damn thing and so he has to close business after he runs out of  food and power so that he can convince his family to come back.  That said, it looks like Linda and the kids are about done with working at the store because they are still way understaffed so when Bob shows up  the reunion happens rather quick.  Tina’s crush, now named Josh, comes back and its officially on!

This episode of Bob’s Burgers pretty much sums up the growing trend of the season, that being the emergence of Linda and Tina being focal points for the show. Linda’s plot dominated the night and there was some fun to be had(especially when the kids showed up), but the theme has been done quite a few times by Marge i.e. a stay at home mom leaves the house to get a job, but does too much, so she ends up going home. What we keep forgetting is that Linda is already the most independent woman on animated television because she works two jobs everyday, at the restaurant and being a mom. So, I felt it was kinda silly to see Linda try and work on her own when she already proves the point that she is a successful working mother. Yea, I know they had the ‘you don’t appreciate me setup’ but that seemed kind of thrown in there. The real gem was Tina’s plot, because it gave us a guest star in the name of Josh of whom is awesomely played by Ben Schwartz (House of Lies, Peep World) and he does such a great job at fitting in with the cast that I think we should have at LEAST 10 more episodes with him in it. Seriously, between Ben, Aziz, and David Wain, the casting directors constantly outdo  themselves in finding great actors for outstanding roles all of whom fit in this Bob’s world like a glove. In this case the glove gets a thumbs up!
