Review: Bobcat Goldthwait’s Misfits & Monsters “Bubba the Bear”

It’s like A Beautiful Mind meets Looney Tunes.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Voice actor Noble Bartell seems like a pretty normal guy. He does his best to balance his work life and home life all the while bringing home the Benjamins as a voice actor for a rather successful animated series. It doesn’t take long, but Noble’s life is worked upside down when he’s suddenly a victim of his own success when the animated character that he voices, Bubba the Bear, comes to life and does everything he can to take revenge on Noble for portraying the bear as a “slow adult”. Eventually, push comes to shove when Bubba starts not only stalking Noble, but also making attempts on Noble’s family.

As the family flees the house (who, by the way, don’t believe anything in what Noble’s saying) Noble has to resort to drastic measures in an attempt to escape Bubba’s clutches, much the same way his acting predecessor did.

Our Take

Not only did the brilliant Bobcat Goldthwait knock it out of the park with an episode one of a new series. But, he may have accidentally produced a back-door pilot for yet another series. “Bubba the Bear” is such a well-produced effort that there’s no reason why this shouldn’t get it’s own run of episodes. Here’s why…

The producers did the smart thing and rang up live-action/animation hybrid pros Titmouse (having done similar efforts with Son of Zorn and Kirby Buckets) who helped produce as good of a seamless interaction between the two mediums as you’re gonna get in this business. Then they went out and got the guy who voices a slew of characters and is a fantastic actor in Seth Green (Austin Powers was on the other day and it still holds up). Put these ingredients in a Bobcat Goldthwait blender, and this episode has promising future written all over it. Why not?
