Review: Ballmastrz: 9009 “Very Special Balls”

Chocolate and salty?

Overview (Spoilers Below)

On this week’s episode, we learn all about how Ace and Babyball’s Voltron powers come to be and we even get to see the duo stretch their legs a bit in a gladiatorial type battle against a grotesque ugly beast that ends in a victory for the duo.

Our Take

The fight scenes in this show are quite frankly excellent and the plot is starting to get really good though delivered in morsels again similar to an anime. That said, it will be interesting to see how Ballmastrz 9009 will be able to spread its wings a bit in just seven episodes left, unlike an anime that does it in 12 or more increments. That could actually be the best way to describe the series, an American-produced anime that is more concise and just as much on the edge as anything in Japan right now.

You can’t help but root more for Ace than anything else. While Gaz Digzy gets the ink due to the more illustrious actor credit attached to it, the show really so far has boiled down to a hero’s journey with the little guy taking the baton as whom to put an investment into in terms of character development and probably the “most fun” as it were. If you’re looking for a series that is dripping in comedic value, this isn’t the show for you. But the ride thus far has been fun as hell.
