Review: Avengers: Black Panther’s Quest “T’Challa Royale”

Off with this show’s head.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Baron Zemo is continuing his efforts to decrypt his dad’s files but all of a sudden the computer systems come under attack by a rogue attack. We learn that N’Jadaka is at it and can be found on the island of Pele Pele. When Black Panther goes to investigate, he comes under attack by Kraven the Hunter who wants nothing more than to gain national fame with his stupid reality show. Fortunately, Panther makes quick work of him and continues into the volcano that N’Jadaka is staying in where the true Killmonger comes to fruition and commences a big fight.

Our Take

And that big fight pretty much saves the episode. By far and away, Kraven the Hunter might be the worst Disney-fied Marvel villain in recent history. Kraven was terrible on Marvel’s Spider-Man, and he’s even worse here, acting more like a Joker than a vicious Russian hunter raised by the jungle. Troy Baker portrays the once fearsome villain as a cliched social nerd meant to pander to a supposedly younger audience incapable of processing a villain that uses way more creative means to fight than what was displayed. I mean, Kraven the Hunter was the guy who successfully hunted down Venom, and THIS is what we get out of him from Disney?

Fortunately, the fight between Panther and N’Jadaka was very well executed. Killmonger showcases a lot of the fight that I was looking for in the Kraven battle and with more personality to boot. This show has a lot of sore points of emphasis, lazy character designs, bad voice acting, and lame dialogue with almost NO sign of Okoye makes this one of the more disappointing series of the year so far.
