Review: Aquadonk Side Pieces “Breakie B”; “Markula the Slumlord”; “Merlo’s Revenge on Unbelievable Ron”
Overview:
“Breakie B”
The hottest new toy on the stands, Breakie B, does it all. Dances, spins, backflips, and of course, assassination. With these tiny robots popping up all over the mall, only one creature can stop Breakie B for good, Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future.
“Markula the Slumlord”
The Plutonians are searching for a new pad to enact their takeover of the planet Earth. Unfortunately, they come across one of the worst landlords you can find, Markula. Despite their desperate attempt at finding a place, they are naïve about what they’re getting into with the vampire.
“Merlo’s Revenge on Unbelievable Ron”
Merlo, the hypnotist, is back. With Carl under his control, Merlo hopes to finally take his revenge on his former sidekick, Unbelievable Ron. However, after harassing his old friend on stage, they both end up without work and are forced to team up again for a new act.
Our Take:
In case you haven’t been paying attention, Aqua Teen Hunger Force is back. Well, temporarily, and in bite-size pieces. Aquadonk Side Pieces is a new 10-episode collection of shorts featuring all your favourite (and some long-forgotten) characters from the hit animated series, Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Premiering on Adult Swim’s YouTube channel, Aquadonk Side Pieces has been premiering a new 3-minute short each day consecutively. Including these three new episodes fresh over the weekend.
“Breakie B” features the return of the Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future in a new hunt for the universe’s greatest assassin, a child’s toy. That is unless Master Shake and Carl, in their new roles as mall security guards, can stop the robotic ghost before he goes on a rampage at the local mall.
The Force’s landlord comes back to make more rent in “Markula the Slumlord”. Although this episode features some surprising guests in the Plutonians. It was only a matter of time before Oglethorpe and Emory made their appearance in Aquadonk Side Pieces after being a significant part of the Aqua Teen Hunger Force series. This time their plans get thwarted once more, but this time by the ever-increasing struggles of the housing crisis.
Finally, hot of the presses this morning, “Merlo’s Revenge on Unbelievable Ron” brings back the hypnotist and his failing attempt at controlling his own path. While all the performer wants is to end the new thriving career of his former sidekick, the results are truly the worst for Carl.
These new episodes maintain the same high calibre of humour that the long-running series and the remainder of the Aquadonk collection have established. With only two more Side Pieces left to be released, it will be difficult to let these characters go again after just getting them back from a seven-year hiatus. But hopefully, there will be more to follow, including the announcement of the long-anticipated second full-length movie that has been in production for years.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
