REVIEW: AMERICAN DAD “Finger Lenting Good”

What if God was one of us?? Or all of the Smiths??

Spoilers Below

With Lent on the way, Francine wants the Smiths to give something up for 30 days.  Stan has to give up yelling, Francine smoking, Jeff and his hugs, Steve and his cries, and Hayley with her junk food.  All of this is set to take place after Roger’s party. Its at this same party that Roger meets the woman of his dreams and opts to take Klaus with him. Also during the party, the Smiths had signed a contract with Avery of whom makes sure that the Smiths make good on their sacrifices. Anyone who DOESN’T loses a finger. As time goes on, withdrawals are starting to set in because Steve cries at everything and Stan wants to yell at him about it all the meanwhile Hayley flips out on her mom due to lack of snacking. As a result, Steve and Stan team up to try and get Jeff caught hugging. If Jeff gives a hug, he loses a finger but the rest of the Smiths get to quit their sacrifices.

Eventually, Jeff doesn’t fall for it, and after many attempts no one seems to fall for each other’s gags. That is until Francine comes home and finds everyone dead….not! Too late, she already lights up, and agrees to Avery cutting off her middle finger despite the fact that Stan tries to talk her out of it. Soon, Avery gets all excited for the finger deal, even setting up a ceremony to go along with it.  Fortunately, the ceremony stops when all of the Smiths stand-in for Francine especially Stan who takes the punishment like a champ.

Roger opts to go to the local strip club to see if he can get info of his missed-connection there.  After consulting with the wise stripper, Roger heads to the hospital, but is unable to find the chick there. Eventually, the search leads to some old dude’s house and we find out that a cow is the woman of Roger’s dreams…

After a pretty awesome last episode, we get a pretty shitty one this week. I guess a lent plot sounds like a novel idea, but I hardly remember Hayley or Jeff having any of the issues they claimed in having. In any case, the plot just kind of went on and on, and I really didn’t find anything that funny about it. Avery’s OCD was funny, but I never would have thought that a religious plot would take center-stage in an episode of American Dad. Roger’s plot was maybe the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen, and the climax just kinda went over like a fart in a Christian church. This one was finger-lenting bad!
