Review: American Dad! “The Unincludeds” (S13Ep11)

This week’s new American Dad! episode “The Unincludeds” had several laughs, most of which involving the antics of Steve and Snot. The storyline was split into three parts, as AD often does. Francine and Stan are visiting Bosnia, Roger and Hayley are dining out, and Steve and Snot throw a party for the uncool kids.

Steve and Snot’s tale is reminiscent of the Simpsons episode (which was inspired by a Twilight Zone episode), as they see versions of themselves in the future. The future versions of themselves warn the current versions of themselves not to go back downstairs to the party, in order to remain uncool. The future outcome of this is that they will remain good friends, and also they will (apparently) invent a time machine.

Needless to say, Steve and Snot repeatedly try not to change the future, but we end up seeing many incarnations of their future selves as the night progresses, and things get progressively weirder and weirder.

Klaus has a quick cameo in “The Unincludeds” for a split second, Stan and Francine’s story kinda fizzles out, and Roger and Hayley’s is almost throwaway. This is very much a Steve-centric episode through and through. We have a couple laughs here and there, but not a ton… although the weirdness really becomes enjoyably insane.

Admittedly, that end dancing sequence is seriously hilarious.

All in all, I found it to be an okay episode– nothing really special or unique about it, but not too bad overall. I definitely don’t consider “The Unincludeds” a gem of the season, but it’s certainly not a total dud, either.

Hoping for better next week, but these days, with good animated sitcoms being canceled all the time, sometimes a new American Dad! of ANY kind is just what the night needed.
