Review: Adventure Time “The Wild Hunt”

Shit gets wild!

Overview (Spoilers Below)

When Princess Bubblegum tasks Finn and Jake to watch over the banana, a Grumbo monster shows up and eats a bunch of them which causes Finn to run after the huge beast. Problem is, Finn can’t seem to land the killer blow to end the fudge-filled monster unless if he tricks himself to do so. This opportunity arises when he runs into Huntress Wizard and the two travel to the cave in which Grumbo lives. It’s here Finn is able to play some mind games on himself long enough to defeat the monster. We also learn that Gumbald was behind all of this, and he’s preparing another monster as we speak.

Our Take

I loved all of the Huntress’ fudge talk leading up to the capture of the monster as I couldn’t stop laughing at it. In any case, this week’s episode featured some epic battle scenes and an interesting premise revolving around Finn. Live-action series have to do a good job of explaining to a viewing audience if the protagonist is dealing with mental issues, with a show like Adventure Time, its quite a bit easier. The trick is, doing the concept in a show aimed at a younger audience, and I think the producers of Adventure Time did a fine job in doing so. I wasn’t overly impressed with the monster’s character design, possibly inspired by a giant sloth, but the makeup of the monster derived of hot chocolate fudge was really well done.
