Review: Adventure Time Elements “Happy Warrior”

Things are heating up.

Spoilers Below:

Betty puts the slime jewel in the Enchiridion and says that she needs the remaining two. Finn wants to go back to help Jake, but the Ice King slaps him and tells him to concentrate. Finn reluctantly agrees that he’s right, and they set off for the Fire Kingdom.

On the way, Finn keeps looking at pictures of Jake, and LSP slaps the device out of his hands, telling him to get a hold of himself. Betty casts a flame shield over Finn to protect him, and he, Gunter, and LSP venture down into the kingdom.

A flame warrior attacks them, but Finn knocks them back. He realizes that it’s Wyatt, who is filled with rage, instead. They take his armor and venture further into the kingdom. Everyone is fighting with each other, and they stumble upon Lady Rainicorn. She’s affected by the fire too and has become a fiery version of herself. When she’s about to finish them off,

Cinnamon Bun saves them and chases off Lady, and Finn is relieved to see that he’s normal. He explains that his flame shield protected him from the change, but the rest of the kingdom wasn’t as lucky. Finn asks if he will help them, but Cinnamon Bun refuses. Although Flame Princess has changed, he still respects her boundaries and has decided on a more passive role. Still, he takes them to the castle.

They come across Flambo, who has given up comedy for violence. Finn fights him, but the flame magic starts to overpower him, and he ends up crushing Flambo’s head in a fit of rage. Gunter finds a secret passageway into the throne room, and they crawl after him.

The throne room is filled with chaos, and Gunter also joins in the brawl. Finn and LSP spot a dragon holding the Fire Jewel, and Finn jumps onto the dragon’s tail. He pries the jewel out of its mouth but realizes with horror that the dragon is actually Flame Princess. He panics, and she gets ready to fight him. Finn becomes consumed by fire magic and prepares to fight Fire Princess.

As LSP dodges attacks, a fire arrow hits the star on her head, and she becomes furious. She shouts for people to stop fighting, and asks why they can’t be like the people from the Candy Kingdom. Flame Princess concedes that LSP has a point and that they should be attacking the Candy Kingdom instead of each other. They begin their march on the Candy Kingdom, leaving LSP confused and helpless.

Overview:

Now that we’ve seen Fire Princess, that marks all the Elementals. Fire magic is triggered by rage and invites senseless violence. Fire Princess, in her dragon form, says that the only fun she feels is from fighting and that there is no alternative. The only way she is able to express joy is through and later, conquest, making fire the most forward of the elements.

Most importantly, LSP notes this episode that she has been in all four zones without a scratch. She was unaffected by the slime assimilation, and she doesn’t require a flame shield to walk among the fire. She treats this like it’s a natural thing, but no other being has been shown to be immune to the Elementals’ magic, not even Finn. Her immunity could prove to be key later on.
