Reddit AMA Recap: Matt Shipman Talks Return Of “One Piece” English Dub, etc

Funimation announced last year that they are working on the English dubbed adaptation of One Piece which is slated to make it’s return sometime later this year, but not much else has been revealed about the show’s production until now in a recent AMA with producer and voice of “Cavendish” Matt Shipman. Matt spills the beans on what sounds like an already deep production queue of the series which has long been dormant in the English dubbing department but poised to make a return. Here’s what Matt had to say about “Cavendish’s” return:

Funi announced that they’re working on the OP dub again, so I can talk about it. I have actually been recording him! I’ve gotta be 15 or 20 episodes in at this point. And I mean 15/20 episodes of HIM, not counting episodes he doesn’t speak in. 

Funimation is already gearing up for a crazy fuck of a Fall 2020 season with new seasons of Dr. Stone, Attack on Titan, and others on the way, it wouldn’t be at all strange if they decided to go bananas and start premiering the English dub of the season then. My wonder is if the streaming service might drop collections of episodes at once much in the same way Crunchyroll is doing right now.
