Race: Adult Swim Retires Episodes Too “Insensitive” Includes Aqua Teen, The Boondocks, And The Shivering Truth ; New Carl For “The Simpsons” Getting Mixed Reviews

The Daily Beast is reporting that both Adult Swim and HBO MAX are retiring episodes of popular series like The Boondocks (“The Story of Jimmy Rebel”), Aqua Teen Hunger Force (“Shake Like Me”), and The Shivering Truth (“Ogled Inklings,”) that are now being deemed too “culturally insensitive”. This isn’t the first time that HBO MAX has removed episodes from controversial series from it’s service, having done the same for South Park earlier this year despite paying out a half a billion dollars for the exclusive streaming rights to the series.

Note, currently, Adult Swim says that every episode of their series is available to stream on their website, this seems to be not the case. Moreover, this adds additional credence to my notes the other day in the Rick and Morty Blu-Ray review that if you can, by the DVDs or Blu-Rays to these series because that may be the only way to keep hold of episodes before it gets to the point that everything is seen as controversial and nothing ever will be on television again.

Fan reaction to the new voice of Carl Carlson on The Simpsons is mixed at best. Following Hank Azaria stepping down from the role in favor of Alex Desert, after black lives matter protests had inspired a slew of white voice actors to step down from voicing roles featuring BIPOC characters. While some are painting a rosier picture, a simple meander over to the comments sections of Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter for The Simpsons will quickly see that the reaction to the actor change is anything but.

I heard the difference the second Carl started talking. I’m sorry but that voice lacks character. As a counterpart to Lenny, he should sound smarter and funnier than that… With all respect to Hank Azaria and the awful pressure put on him by a society who wants to feel outraged and make controversies out of everything, I think it’s sad to change a character who existed for thirty years. Actors are made to act or voice somebody they’re not. I don’t even understand how Apu came to be a problem, especially considering that the vast majority of Indians were perfectly fine with him and even loved him. Nobody cares about Japanese animes where teenage boys are voiced by women but a black, Indian, Asian or Arab character should now systematically be voiced by a person specifically from that group by fear of being insulted and threatened ?

Really good episode 👍 As a fan of voice acting I appreciate the job of Carl’s VA did, but it was noticeable. I really wish the switch wouldn’t of happened but it’s Hank Azarias call and we have to respect it.
