Pantheon Report: AMC+ Does Unforgivable And Cancels Series
We had mentioned in our monthly power rankings in November that we were worried about what AMC’s content markdowns might mean on two fronts, the future of Pantheon and English dubbed adaptations coming to HiDive. We kind of thought Pantheon was safe due to the fact that the series was ordered for two seasons and animation is such that it’s produced differently than live-action so that a bunch of the show’s production has probably already been finished, if not already finished. HiDive, on the other hand, produces English dubs with usually a shorter length of time allotted, but on the back of a hefty Fall 2022 schedule, we haven’t seen much in terms of announcements for the streamer’s Winter 2023 schedule.
Welp, the former has come to fruition, with Deadline reporting that AMC+ has canceled the second season of Pantheon after a widely heralded first season already premiered to rave reviews and was ranked #2 on the best adult animated dramas of 2022. This as part of the markdowns that are at a total of $400 million which has largely consisted of live-action, but again, with most of Pantheon’s second season already produced, what the fuck is going on here? They even fucking removed the first season of the series from AMC+, the fucking assholes. This is by far worse than anything anybody else has canceled thus far, including HBO MAX and Netflix, because at least with HBO MAX we didn’t know what we lost yet with most of the cancels and with Netflix we didn’t lose much in terms of adult animation. We gave AMC+ a solid chance, and they blew it.
Fortunately, the report notes that AMC is going to shop it’s canceled series, and with most of Pantheon having already been completed, hopefully that would be enough of a compelling reason for streamers like Prime Video, Hulu, or Netflix to take a flyer. Producers Titmouse already have healthy relationships with both Prime Video (Legends of Vox Machina) and Netflix (Big Mouth), so if there is a God (which there isn’t), this thing can get continued success. We spoke to director Juno Lee, and it sounds like the Craig Silverstein series has a lot of room for growth, we don’t deserve to be punished for this, we should get to see it.
Fuck you, AMC.
Synopsis:
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
