Newsbits: “The Cops” ; “Animals” ; “Final Space” Updates

Some quick hits on three shows that you should know about.

As a result of the suspension of production on TBS’ The Cops following sexual misconduct allegations against the show’s star and creator Louis C.K., the collateral damage has begun to take hold as a result. Reports have been coming out that Starburns Industries has been laying off producers of the series which includes layout artists, animators, and everything in between which means it could be quite some time if at all, we see this series come to fruition.

The Cops was an upcoming animated comedy coming to TBS set to premiere March  2018. The Cops follows Al (Brooks) and Lou (C.K.), two Los Angeles patrolmen trying their best to protect and serve, sometimes failing at both. Ride with them as they patrol one of the biggest cities in the world, then go home with them and be glad you’re not married to either. Ten episodes have been ordered and technically The Cops isn’t canceled yet and rumors are swirling about potential replacements for Louis’ character, but nothing has come to fruition as of yet.

The producers of Animals have been teasing additional guest stars for the show’s upcoming third season set to premiere on HBO sometime in 2018. New teased names, to go along with a bunch of other teased names, now include the likes of Cheri Oteri (SNL) and OJ Simpson prosecutor Marcia Clark.

That’s right…OJ Simpson prosecutor Marcia Clark. Let that sink in for a bit.

HBO’s decidedly adult animated comedy series ventures into the nether regions of Earth’s least inhabitable environment, New York City, which is home to a motley crew of downtrodden creatures. Whether it’s lovelorn rats, gender-questioning pigeons or aging bedbugs in the midst of a midlife crisis, the awkward small talk, moral ambiguity and existential woes of non-human urbanites prove remarkably similar to those of humans. Created by Phil Matarese and Mike Luciano — who voice many of the characters — and produced by Jay and Mark Duplass (“Togetherness”), the series features such guest voiceover artists as Eric Andre, Jessica Chastain, Rob Corddry, Horatio Sanz, Molly Shannon, Ellie Kemper, Marc Maron, Wanda Sykes, Cobie Smulders and Jon Lovitz.

Final Space creator Olan Rogers has been busy wrapping up the first season of the series which he now says should air within Q1 of 2018. While Olan has been mum on a possible second season pickup, he did note that he’s got a few more projects that are on his plate that will be on the way.

Final Space is an American animated science fiction television series created by indie internet filmmaker Olan Rogers with David Sacks serving as showrunner.
