MC Chris cancels Kickstarter Campaign for Cartoon…drops @TitmouseInc and switching to Indiegogo

He’s got a big long statement, too.

You may remember that MC Chris launched a Kickstarter campaign to try and get episode 2 of his animated series done. However, things weren’t going so well so Chris decided to cancel the campaign altogether and he even issued a big long statement to confirm the cancellation:

but here’s the too long didn’t watch version. i cancelled the kickstarter because we weren’t gonna raise the money in time. i was gonna exhaust myself raising $120K and then get none of it.

so i’m going to relaunch when tour starts on indiegogo, a site that let’s you keep what you raise. i’m also going to cut the goal in half and raise $100K. very doable if we raised $30K in two weeks. we’re gonna change rewards, lose what didn’t work, keep what did and add some new stuff. plugs will be one of the rewards. sorry to those that didn’t get their plugs. hopefully i can make it up to you.

we’re not going to make it with titmouse because they’re just too expensive for me. so i’m going to use the money to start MY OWN ANIMATION COMPANY. which will cut costs and make future episodes easier to achieve.

my fans are going to help. i need animators, people that can draw, people that know flash, after effects or toon boom. we DON’T need writers, or VO actors or musicians. right now anyhow. send your resume and your portfolios, samples of your work to mcchriscartoonhelpwanted@gmail.com. if you’ve sent art before, do it it again to this address.

so yeah, my fans and i are gonna start a company and do this shit ourselves. now we just have to figure out what to call the company…. i’m leaning towards NEVER SURRENDER STUDIOS. what do you think?

so that’s it, thanks for listening, sorry this frustrating at times, but i feel so much better about everything. i think this idea will result in lots of toons, not just one, and an amazing new way to collaborate with my talented fan base.

Thankfully Chris posted up the statement because there was no way I was watching anything. That said, its an interesting play for Chris to start his own animation company and produce the project all himself. That said, is he going to be able to SELL whatever new project he is working on? Obviously, if he goes the Youtube route that would be a low risk-low reward effort that sure as hell is going to take a long time to gain traction in an awfully crowded field of indies and established Youtube channels. But, who knows?? I hope it works out for him Chris will have to realize that if he starts a company that THAT should take priority over anything music-related. #Truth
