If Joe Dirt 2 is successful, could the animated series happen?
I fucking love Joe Dirt, and I can’t wait for the sequel coming out next month on Crackle entitled Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser. The first one was hysterical, and ‘Brandy’ is hot as hell, and it was also the last time Kid Rock was relevant in anything. I haven’t seen any plot details for the second, but in fairness, it probably wouldn’t matter because I’m going to watch it anyway.
But, did you know that an animated series inspired by Joe Dirt was being shopped back in 2010? Yep, and TBS was in the lead to pick it up, but the pilot never came about leaving me a sad panda. But, one has to wonder, if Joe Dirt 2 is a big success on Crackle, could the Sony-owned website OR another outlet altogether show interest in the animated series?
It’s not far-fetched. Crackle is already premiering a new animated series happening later this year from Robot Chicken studio Stoopid Buddy Stoodios entitled SuperMansion, take that grain of thought and merge it with the fact that the site has Joe Dirt 2 premiering July 16th, 2015, and you’ve got yourself a spark. And if Leonardo DiCaprio has taught me one thing, is that all you need is a spark.
Historically, animated adaptations of live-action comedies have been a disaster with Black Dynamite being the lone-exception. Napoleon Dynamite was a mess and the Harold & Kumar animated series is currently in development hell. A Zoolander animated series? Evidently, still very much alive. However, if David Spade were to voice the titular character of Joe Dirt, I would be on board. However, the mullet has to make the comeback, not that bob and weave that happened at the end of the first movie.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
