This is like the biggest wet dream for Marvel. You have the one character that the casual movie fans eat up, and the new darling of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Yes, Agents of SHIELD fits in), Deathlok. If you ever read the comic of the same line, there isn’t much new here. The comic takes place when Daken takes the mantle of Wolverine for the Dark Avengers during Dark Reign. Thankfully, they aren’t seen anywhere. What we do get, however, is a freshly ressurected Steve Rogers and Wolverine trying to help the current Captain America (Bucky Barnes) from getting killed. As for the movie, it’s a thing, that’s there.

The basic story, if you haven’t read it before, revolves around Wolverine trying to save Bucky Barnes from getting killed by an army of Deathloks. These Deathloks end up killing a bunch of latent vigilantes from the future, all in the name of Roxxon. This Roxxon turns into Marvel’s Skynet, and the Deathloks being their Terminators. In the future, the Deathloks kill anyone who speaks up against Roxxon, and in the past, they kill vigilantes before they become a threat to Roxxon. Bucky holds his own against the Deathloks, but he’s no Cap. Thankfully, this brings all of the cameos from the comics, including Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Thing, Spider-Man (present), and of course, Steve Rogers.

I do have to say, however, is how cool Spider-Man looks in this. Future Spider-Man looks like a bolder Deathstroke. Unfortunately, that lasted all of five seconds.

This is literally a frame by frame recreation of the comics, complete with art style. I was never a fan of the art style in the Wolverine comics, and these motion comics are just as bad. This can’t even be considered a real movie, because nothing moves, except for very basic animations. Once more, whoever animated this took a page out of the Tite Kubo book of background drawing. There’s nothing left to it.

This story would have been so much cooler as an animated movie, because Marvel desperately needs to put something out as good as the DC line. The voices are terrible, and don’t really relate to the characters they’re supposed to be. On top of that, the background sound effects like the thunder, is so terrible. It’s like someone who just started putting together sound files because they just pirated Pro Tools.

All in all, the sticker price is $15. This is $15 you can put towards other things, say, the Tomorrow Dies Today trade paperback. In face, you can buy the trade paperback for less money, so you can buy it, then go get food. Also, I can guarantee you it will take you less time to read this story than to watch it. That’s another reason to buy it.

This is just bad, in almost every sense of the word. The best part of this is that it sticks to the comic, but the animation and sound are atrocious. I get that these are so low budget, they don’t come out on Blu-Ray, but dump money into it to make it look fantastic. People actually want to buy these and be entertained. Atomic Cartoons needs to stay away from Marvel.
