Freeform Orders Pilot For “Sticks” Which May Break Your Bones But Words Will Never Hurt You

We are freefallin’ for Freeform.

Freeform’s starting to turn into an interesting network. At one point, it looked as if it was just a place for all the fans of Degrassi to go once that show canceled, but now the network’s got a bunch of Marvel shows in the works and now we’ve got word of its first animated comedy which has been ordered for a pilot presentation. According to a press release:

“Sticks,” an animated “Daria” crossed with “Girls” that follows the life of Sticks, a neurotic 20somethingwith a head filled with pop culture references and a love of Chili’s. And did we mention she lives with a giant eagle? Jessica Stickles serves as writer and co-executive producer, with Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson (“Broad City”), Will Gluck and Richard Schwartz also serving as executive producers. “Sticks” is produced by Olive Bridge Entertainment and animated by the awardwinning team at Stoopid Buddy Stoodios (“Robot Chicken,” “Buddy Thunderstruck”) in association with Sony Pictures Television.

Our Take

The coolest thing about this series is that it sounds pretty normal right up until you get to the whole part of Sticks living with a giant eagle. Fresh off the renewal of SuperMansionStoopid Buddy Stoodios is behind the animation of the series, and I’ll be curious to see how the multi-faceted studio will do so because they really have so many options. Stop-motion? Camp WWE 2D style? Could be anyone’s guess at this point.
