FOX ANNOUNCES SATURDAY LATE NIGHT ANIMATED BLOCK–WAS THIS MY IDEA?

I called it…yep. All you other media outlets are reporting it now, but what did I tell you WAY back in October when talking about Seth’s THR interview? For those that don’t know what I am talking about, FOX has just announced that they are working with Nick Weidenfeld formerly of Adult Swim who has helped bring along a TON of animated shows such as The Boondocks, China,IL, Superjail, and more to develop a Saturday late night-animated block to go up against NBC’s terrible show, Saturday Night Live.

Here’s an excerpt from the press release coming straight from FOX:

“The digital channel will extend across platforms such as Web, mobile apps, game consoles and Video on Demand.  It kicks off in 2012 and will feature 50 original short-form pieces per year, online windows of FOX animated shows, and user-adapted content. It will create a unique opportunity for fans and up-and-coming talent to engage with professional FOX-curated content, which they could possibly platform into their own series. FOX will also use its expertise and cross-promotional power to nurture these new assets through this pipeline”

Sounds pretty awesome, and am curious as to how this compares to Comedy Central’s own upcoming series TripTank but guess what I PREDICTED THIS. Here’s an excerpt from the article I wrote.

Right now EVERY show on AniDom has this same setting with the exception of the upcoming Allen Gregory, And Then There Was Gordon, and Napoleon Dynamite greenlights, all of which stray away from the tried and true formula. Could it be Fox is laxing its rules in a post-Seth animated world?  I’m not sure, but remember where they brought back Seth from…Cartoon Network? And there is more talent over at that network now then there has been in about 5 to 6 years with Adult Swim bringing us some of the best in the business, so don’t be surprised if a Brendon Small(with another expiring contract) or a Brad Neely flirt with the idea of going from midnight EST on a cable network to primetime slot on a major network.
