Finale Review: Mob Squad Episode 13

Spoilers Below

Wow, thirteen episodes have passed, and we have finally reached the season finale of Mob Squad. I can still vividly remember watching the very first episode, many weeks ago, and – after seeing everything it had to offer – thinking to myself: “what the hell is this shit?”

Some things never change. So let’s just get to it.

With Lyle acting as a distraction to lure Steve out of his house, Nigel, The Witch, and Cooper break into it with Marcus’ pick axe and begin preparing the TNT trigger mechanism. When Steve returns, still in hot pursuit of Lyle, the rest of the gang scatters. Nigel is easily killed by Steve, but when he makes a move toward the others, Phil begins shooting arrows at him until he retreats into his house, setting off the explosives. The house and Steve are blown to bits. Everyone celebrates, with the exception of Cameron, who realizes he was tricked into participating in their deadly plan. An exceptionally-animated epilogue shows the re-spawning/ rebirth of Steve, clearly setting up a second season.

As far as finales go, Mob Squad’s was satisfying. It featured every character, and made sure to give them each a key part, which generally reflected their overall personality or role in the show. Nigel was a jerk and no one cared when he was vanquished, Marcus talked funny and caught on fire, Cooper showed his fearsome anger, Cameron helped out his friends and eventually regretted it, Lyle skillfully evaded Steve while acting as a distraction, Phil went to battle, and The Witch called for an orgy at the end. All the loose ends were tied up. And although their very simple goal took the whole season to accomplish, it felt good to finally have that bow put on it. If the season were to continue, they would need a fresh new direction to retain their easily-distracted fan-base anyway. All things considered, the timing was appropriate. I look forward to seeing where the show will go when it returns for Season Two, and we’ll be sure to let you know when that happens.
