@EvaLongoria and @Hulu CEO Andy Forssell Talk up ”Mother Up!” Coming this Fall!
We’ve been tracking this one for a while, and recently Eva Longoria and CEO of Hulu Andy Forssell stopped by Ad Age to talk about their new animated series Mother Up! Here’s what we know!
For those that have never heard of it, Ad Age is where a bunch of advertisers in NYC (where all the advertisers pretty much live) go to a conference to hear about trends in viewership whether they be on TV, games, or in this case the internet. Similar to any kind of a Comic Con or other convention, there are live Q & A’s held, and one of the pseudo panels in attendance were Hulu CEO Andy Forsell and Eva Longoria who were there to talk about their new animated series Mother Up! starring Eva and set to air this Fall on both City Broadcasting in Canada (where the entirety of the show’s production is being done) and Hulu.
According to AdAge’s site, the series is being produced by “Longoria, former Sony Pictures chief and Mass Animation founder Yair Landau and “Family Guy” and “American Dad” co-producer Michael Shipley.” One of the interesting quotes from the article is the Hulu CEO talking about the distribution channels of Mother Up! that could actually not only include a bunch of TV outlets like the aforementioned City, but also other online networks like Netflix and iTunes:
“I don’t think of it as any differently than launching on Fox on a Friday night,” he said. “We think once it has aired on Hulu, it could have a home on any number of cable networks, and obviously we will be selling it into video-on-demand systems like iTunes and Netflix.”
Talking a little bit about the show itself, producer Yair Landau assured the crowd that the comedic value for Mother Up! will probably be more in like with say a Family Guy or American Dad than a South Park. “In many ways we are delivering “Family Guy” from a female-empowerment standpoint,” Mr. Landau said. “All of us who are parents feel like we mess up a lot and there aren’t a lot of moms on TV that mess up in the way real moms do.”
Sounds like its going to be a great show, and its pretty awesome seeing Canadian produced content starting to make waves here on American soil. Teletoon at Night’s Fugget About It is currently on iTunes with its first season, Crash Canyon has American distro, and now here comes Mother Up! on Hulu. That said we’ve seen online distro for a Canadian series happen before when CBC Canada launched Ben’s City to which really no one knew about and we haven’t heard about since.
No word yet as to when Mother Up! show will debut, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see these guys at either the San Diego or NY Comic Cons. Hulu isn’t the only internet network getting serious about original animation either, we just talked about Amazon’s new series Dark Minions and Netflix also has an animated series on the way too with Seth Meyers. Rest assured, we will be covering all of them like flies on poo so keep it locked here on Bubbleblabber.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
