English Dub Season Review: I’m Quitting Heroing Season One

Overview:

Banished from the kingdom he once called home, Leo wanders aimlessly throughout the land until, one day, he hears rumors of Echidna’s efforts to rebuild her army. Hoping that demonkind might accept him as an ally, he returns to the demon queen’s castle and offers Echidna his help.

Our Take:

Do you know what this anime was? A breath of fresh air. It wasn’t the best anime I have ever seen but it did just enough right for me to recommend it to people. It was fantasy without being an isekai which in today’s anime landscape is kind of a big deal. It was also somewhat unique in the fact that it wasn’t far in the past or anything but actually our future. I know this has been done before but as far as anime goes it feels like somewhat new territory. I can only think of one or two others like that.

There was definitely some top-tier voice talent in this but the two leads were people I had never really heard before. Joe Daniels voices the lead hero, Leo, and he also voices Kongming in the currently running Ya Boy Kongming! which is fantastic. Olivia Swasey voices the demon queen Echidna and I loved her performance. The only other thing I heard her in was when she played Haruno Yukinoshita in My Teen Romantic Comedy which was excellent. Overall great casting by Sentai for this one.

The story has a really awesome ebb and flow. There isn’t too big a major plot that gets resolved in this. Honestly, it would really benefit from a second season because it felt like the story was just getting good when it ended, and don’t get me started on the waste of time that is the OVAs. Sure they were fun but if they had time just adapt a bit more of the story.

Luckily, the characters are great and all get some time to shine. The demon queen’s generals each have a mini-arc that I think everyone would enjoy. Everyone will find a character to latch onto and enjoy. This wasn’t the best but the highest praise I can give it is that it was a very pleasant surprise.
