English Dub Review: Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out “Tsuki Uzaki Wants a Thrill?”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

Sakurai meets Tsuki Uzaki, Hana’s mother while returning the money that Uzaki gave him to repay her drunken mishap with his futon. Tsuki’s initial impression of Sakurai is that he’s scary, but after conversing with him she considers him to be a nice guy. However, misunderstandings arise when Tsuki thinks that Sakurai is interested in her when the cat was on her lap, and Sakurai and Uzaki discussing how he could approach the cat. Then her mother visits Uzaki at her workplace and as she’s talking with Ami and Ami’s father on Uzaki’s progress at the cafe, she sees that Sakurai works there too. Later when Sakurai and Uzaki are in the storage room talking about the maturity of coffee beans Tsuki overhears them.

After a gaming session, Sakurai complains about her attitude and compares it to her mom’s which causes Uzaki to start observing her mom. The next day, Uzaki acts in a gentle and calm manner which has even the customers concerned for her. Everyone tries to convince her to go back to normal which leads to Sakurai apologizing to Uzaki. Then they start an argument over Sakurai’s words which lead to one of the customer’s kids intervening who gives them a ticket to a raffle to make up. Using the ticket given to them by the kid, the two win the grand prize, a trip to Tottori.

Our Take:

This episode of Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out is full of misunderstandings mainly due to Sakurai and Uzaki’s words and how it’s interpreted by others. This time they’ve caused a misunderstanding with Tsuki who thinks that Sakurai is interested in her despite the age difference. Furthermore, that misunderstanding, unfortunately, doesn’t appear to be cleared up yet even with Ami and the cafe owner’s talk with her thanks to the storage room chat. Hopefully, they clear it up soon otherwise it’ll cause a situation along the way.

Then there are Uzaki’s actions after Sakurai brings up her mom’s kind and gentle attitude in comparison to her usual attitude after her win with their gaming session. It’s a brief session but it propels the story forward with Uzaki acting kind and gentle like her mom the next day at work which is concerning to the people around her. That entire talk was a good show on how Uzaki should just act like herself, and the anime wouldn’t be the same if she did act like that. Furthermore, we get to see a different side of Sakurai with his meek behavior and Ami’s thoughts on it were amusing to watch with her father’s comment.

Overall the episode was alright, but the misunderstandings from Uzaki and Sakurai’s words are beginning to be tiring to watch through every week. However, when they arrive at Tottori, the Detective Conan reference with the cardboard cutouts at the stations was nice and a good preview of what Tottori has to offer.
