English Dub Review: Urusei Yatsura “Parents’ Day Horrors / Since Your Parting”

Overview:

Are aliens invading again? Nope — it’s just Ataru, Meno, and Lum’s mothers invading Parents’ Day! But a language barrier may turn this meeting of the moms into pure mania.

Our Take:

It took nine and a half episodes and Lum leaving Ataru without saying anything but I think we might have turned a corner. More than likely that’s just me being way too optimistic but it was nice to see that Ataru does legitimately care about Lum. He still acted like an ass who ignores her when she came back but we will have to see if maybe now that he knows what not having her around is like that will change him a little bit.

One thing I haven’t commented too much on with this remake is the animation. When you put it side by side with the original it looks so good. This is to be expected, I mean the original came out in the 80s so not a huge shock. But they could have put in less work and it would have still been an upgrade and they didn’t. Up until now, I would say the animation has been the best part, the colors really pop, especially on Lum between her outfits and when she zaps Ataru. Let’s hope we can start getting more decent episodes in a row now.
