English Dub Review: Tomo-chan Is a Girl! “To Stay by Your Side…”

Overview:

Jun and Tomo are still adjusting to life after they’ve confessed their feelings to each other.

Our Take:

I have been both anticipating and dreading this season finale since I watched last week’s episode. I was happy that Episode 12 ended on such a high note. Unfortunately, that’s also why I was worried about this week’s episode. I had a feeling that it would go downhill, even if only slightly, after having such a good episode last week. That has been a pattern with this show and I really didn’t want to see that happen.

I’m happy to report that this episode is excellent. It touches upon the awkward behavior between Jun and Tomo after confessing their feelings. It also has so many funny and sweet moments between the two. We get to see them go to the movies together, exchange Christmas gifts and have the most satisfying conclusion I could have asked for.

The episode takes a couple of unexpected turns, but they make a lot of sense. I like seeing Tomo’s parents getting involved. I wasn’t on board with what the episode was going for with that at first, but the idea grew on me immediately. Plus, like I said, the conclusion is extremely satisfying.

We even get a nod to the fact that these are still competing even after everything’s that happened. I love that. Sure, their relationship status may be different, but they’re still best friends and they still act like it. There are some little things I would add or change about this episode, but I’m thrilled about this ending. I couldn’t ask for much more.
