English Dub Review: The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent “Miracle”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

The king, Erhart, and Johan discuss Sei’s last enchantment. It’s on the level of a legendary class item and discusses the status of the Grand Magus being the only one to determine if she’s the Saint or not. Meanwhile, Sei concludes that she is the Saint with her abilities, but wishes to retain a normal life. Johan kicks her out of the lab for making too many potions again, so Sei searches for a book on magic in the library. She comes across the king who offers his sincerest apologies about his son’s behavior. He wishes to thank Sei for her contribution to the kingdom, but she denies the outlandish suggestions.

Sei visits the injured soldiers who came back after their expedition and sees a familiar face missing his hand. Sei wishes to help and heals him with magic while getting the attention she was avoiding all this time. She performs miracle after miracle on the most injured soldiers. Sei performs one high-level healing spell which catches the attention of Johan and Albert. Afterward, the knights of the Second Order take it upon themselves to escort Sei from the library back to the Institute. Johan informs her that the Grand Magus is now awake to see if Sei is the Saint.

Our Take:

The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent spent these first few episodes building up to Sei’s reveal as the Saint. It pays off with her willingness to reveal that she’s the Saint by miraculously healing the injured knights.

For starters, there’s the political stuff with the trio discussing Sei’s ability to enchant a legendary class item. Obviously, there are political ramifications with the Crown Prince declaring that Aira Misono is the Saint over Sei. It’s going to cause a bit of drama over time, and I wonder how the show will handle it. Then there’s the king being all too willing to reward Sei for her efforts. It’s clear that the country needs its Saint and the king’s offer to Sei is one way to tie her to the kingdom. On a side note, Sei’s dialogue and reaction to realizing that she’s talking to the king in the library were hilarious.

Then there’s Sei and the knights who later are injured after the expedition. At this point, Sei, despite her wish for a normal life, already exhibits traits like a saint in terms of personality and her actions. It doesn’t go unnoticed by the soldiers who joke about her being the Saint. These parts are good at continuing Sei’s mundane days as she grows important to people around her and vice versa.

Overall it was a good episode with Sei accepting that she can’t live a normal life when she’s the Saint. Hopefully, the next episode will quickly affirm that she’s the Saint and explore the political issues that arise from it. Sei is obviously the Saint and if the show drags it out any longer it’s going to get frustrating to watch since the anime spent a third of its content on it.
