English Dub Review: Star Blazers Space Battleship Yamato 2199 “Memories of the Blue Planet”

Dead memories in our head.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

On the 26th and final episode of Star Blazers Space Battleship Yamato 2199 we nearly see the death of Yuki only for the spirit of Kodai’s brother, which we learn is more or less the soul of the ship, bring her back to life. Okita dies, but Harada and Kato get married as the ship returns successfully to Earth to help save it.

Our Take

The finale was a nice bow on a crazy journey. As we prepare for the 2202 series, we’ve got a lot of arcs to explore that will hopefully come to light in the upcoming spring anime season.

We’ll do a nice overview in the series review, but 26 episodes ago Star Blazers didn’t give us a lot to care about. Too many characters set against a backdrop of a stunning aesthetic. Fortunately, as the dust settled, this show came to prominence and gave us one hell of a crazy adventure. Questions remain. Are the Gamilas going to continue to restore peace with Earth? Is Kodai truly done with space travel? Suffice to say, 2202 series is coming at exactly the right time.
