English Dub Review: SSSS. Dynazenon “What’s Your Reason for Fighting?”
Overview:
Gauma gives everyone a piece of Dynazenon so that they can practice. He wants everyone to meet up for training the next day. When the next day comes no one seems to be thinking a kaiju attack is all that weird. Yomogi doesn’t go to training cause he has to work. Eventually, he and Yume train a bit and she apologizes for standing him up. Another kaiju fight happens and they need Yomogi to form Dynazenon. Will he hold them back without any training?
Our Take:
We get more background on some characters and more kaiju fighting. The animation still holds up and I was right about the opening song in the last episode. I need to hear it a bit more before I form an opinion on this one. Altogether a very solid second episode.
Yomogi and Yume eventually make up and she tells him she had an older sister who died. I’m not sure how that’s linked to her constantly standing people up or if it is but I understand losing someone can make you do weird things. I still don’t think it’s right or anything but I get it. I imagine this will become a bigger part of the plot later but we will see.
As for Chise and Koyomi, we still don’t know too much about them but I feel confident that their time will come. Trigger did a great job developing most of the characters in SSSS. Gridman so I think they will do fine. Gauma on the other hand is quickly becoming my favorite character.
He just shows up while Yomogi is in the bath and joins him. He stays for dinner and sleeps over too, which the transition to him sleeping over was hilarious. Gauma also gave us a hint at who the antagonists might be. A group calling themselves the Kaiju Eugenicists, a group of kaiju users. Kaiju users it turns out can influence kaiju to do their bidding. Gauma doesn’t currently have his abilities but I think it will be cool when/if they come back.
The kaiju fight in this one was another winner animation-wise. This time they did an awesome job of mixing in some 2D with the CGI and it looked great. There are few studios that animate as well as Trigger does and they have a really unique style I enjoy as well. They are one studio I will watch whatever they put out just cause it’s by them.
I am going to give it a few more episodes before I comment on the voice actors but so far the performances have been good. A pretty good cast list for this one but I just want to get more from the characters first. I really am liking this show and the characters are intriguing which is the biggest part of a show like this for me. I also hope we might see some romance blossom between Yomogi and Yume later.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
