English Dub Review: So I’m a Spider, So What? “My House, On Fire?”

Overview

The nameless Spider-lady so far has finally created a home of her own and begins to start fighting monsters in order to level up. Other than the nasty food, it’s a fairly fulfilling existence. At least until her first encounter with the humans within this Isekai universe, she’s stuck in…

Our Take

Once again, the show continues to hit its stride once more with how compelling, dynamic, and energetic the Spider-Lady is in terms of personality and charisma compared to 90% of anime characters this season. It just goes to show that on a consistent level, Brianna Knickerbocker is killing it so far with the English dub performance as the Spider-Lady despite the audience not even knowing her character’s actual name yet.

The animation was pretty nice, with lots of charm and expression coming through even in the CG bits. But at the very least they made the B-plot with the human characters slightly compelling as we’re learning a bit about one of them having some connection to the titular Spider-Lady in some way during their previous life as we learn from the opening of the last episode that everyone within that same classroom just so happened to also be reincarnated along with the Spider-Lady.

Overall, this was a pretty good episode, I’m excited to see the further progression of the Spider-Lady even if you kinda feel bad for her at some point. Life is tough when you are at the bottom of the food chain but she’s working really hard to get stronger and you start to actually root for her which speaks volumes about the writing itself. Hopefully, in the next episode, I’d like to see the b-plot with the human characters further progress and develop enough for me to actually give a shit.
