English Dub Review: Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It r=1-sinθ “Science-types Fell in Love, So They Tried Preparing for a Campus Festival”

Overview:

The Ikeda Lab is, as is traditional, doing something for the university’s Mutsumi Festival, an event that draws many people from off-campus. Yukimura proposes conducting a large-scale experiment on the importance of appearance for romance. He has readied many cosplay costumes to rent out to visitors who will then participate in an attractiveness rating. In order to emphasize how important appearance is, Yukimura projects a series of images of Himuro in cosplay on the screen, including Himuro in a nurse’s uniform, a maid’s uniform, and a black cat-style outfit?!

Our Take:

You always got to have the one edgy person I guess. Kanade’s whole “I can’t be weird” thing was a tiny bit annoying but I also get it. Her family and everyone around her basically drilled into her that being weird is not good. As much as I want to root for her and the guy she’s seeing to be a thing I feel like he’s not good for her either. When she seemed hesitant to play the punching game he just said “Yeah it’s not a typical thing a girl would do” like c’mon man.

Kanade and Yukimura need to work things out for their friendship as well. Even Yukimura did some questionable things. Himuro sent him some racy cosplay photos and he showed them to the whole team because he wanted to do an experiment involving them. Sure, Himuro got a little mad but she should have got way more upset I think. Overall, it’s not the best episode, but they can’t all be winners.
