English Dub Review: Rumble Garanndoll “I Mean, I’m an Idol (No Matter What Anyone Says)!”

Overview

Things are settling down with the two battery girls, but Kudo’s regret is catching up to him. As he believes what they fight for may not be worth the damage they cause. Meanwhile, a strange box appears in their room…

Our Take

The episode proceeds to continue where the last one left off with a shot of the beaten-up Garanndoll Mech, along with a bit of a recap explaining that Yuki “only acted like she was ready”. Between the last episode and this one, it’s obvious that Yuki has an issue with hiding parts of her real persona while also trash talks other idols under fake user names online. However, this statement and Yuki’s actions make it apparent that it wasn’t just the fans she was putting on a proverbial mask towards, but herself.

In this aspect, she’s actually different from Kudo and it’s a unique way to tackle this particular subject. While Kudo has a tendency to hide this aspect of himself, Yuki doesn’t even seem aware of this other side because she’s so caught up in everything else. It hurts watching her call herself “average” and “talentless” because we’ve seen how badly she wants this dream but was failing to recognize her own strengths. I also wondered how they were going to swap battery girls in the middle of a fight and the twist to that gave me a good laugh, though Rin’s reaction afterward was hilarious! I also loved how the resistance leader Balzac shoots himself in the foot when it comes to making shit public only for it to blow up in his face in such a comedic way.

Overall, I really enjoyed this episode. I think Yuki’s mental state is a bit of a relatable scenario in the sense that It’s easy to get caught up in the world and lose sight of our motivations, passions & personal goals. As the monotony of life can easily make us forget what we’re all capable of. I just hope it doesn’t lead towards a typical & cliche love triangle/harem situation, especially since those rarely have a legit resolution…
